A LITTLE HISTORY

The use of soapstone as a kitchen tool dates back to ancient times, when metals were not yet used for this purpose. Because of its malleability and heat resistance, it was used as early as the Bronze Age, not for cooking, but as a matrix for smelting metal.

Later, in ancient Rome, the historian Ovid reported the use of soapstone to make pots by the Reti people. The first mass-produced handicraft products in northern Italy date back to the Middle Ages, when pots produced in the Valtellina region were highly appreciated and even exported to neighboring countries.

During colonial times in Brazil, this ancient tradition reached the region of Ouro Preto, in Minas Gerais, where skilled artisans continue to make pots from soapstone: an entirely natural product that, even today, thanks to its unique characteristics, remains an ideal kitchen tool.
